aki is a jazz collective led by drummer Anke Verslype, with guitarist Willem Heylen, bassist Ruben De Maesschalck, and harpist Marjolein Vernimmen. Their music blends atmospheric jazz with minimalism, built on simple yet expansive melodies. After two EPs, Warme Dagen and Niobe, they released their debut album Nader (WERF) in 2022, featuring clarinetist Joachim Badenhorst. Their latest album, Het Tij, expands their sound with Badenhorst and euphonium player Niels Van Heertum. On tour, Thomas Jillings joins the lineup. aki’s music evokes warmth and melancholy, balancing cinematic soundscapes with jazz and improvisation. In 2023, they won Jong Jazztalent Gent and premiered new work at Gent Jazz.
