Ottla

Bert Dockx is a musical chameleon, effortlessly moving between genres—psychedelic rock with Flying Horseman, Dutch-language songwriting with Strand, pop reinterpretations under his own name, and alternative jazz with Dans Dans. When Jazz Lab invited him to perform at their 25th-anniversary celebration in 2018, he introduced Ottla, an initially one-off collaboration that evolved into a full-fledged project. Their debut album showcased brooding, atmospheric compositions like Spinrag and Stofwolk, followed by a striking soundtrack for Kroniek van het Vuur in 2021. Now, Ottla spreads its wings with Vogel, an electrifying new album bursting with jazz-improv-electro-noise-prog-afro-blues-groove-punk-krautrock energy. Dockx, alongside multi-instrumentalist Thomas Jillings, bassist Gerben Brijs, and drummer Louis Evrard, crafts music that crackles with tension and spontaneity. Their sound is restless, ever-changing, and impossible to pin down. The bird has taken flight—untamed, unpredictable, and gloriously free.
