Speakers Corner Quartet

Speakers Corner Quartet is a testament to enduring friendship, love, and the transformative power of music. Emerging in 2006 as the house band for Brixton Jamm’s legendary open mic night, the quartet—comprising flautist Biscuit, drummer Kwake Bass, violinist Raven Bush, and bassist Peter Bennie—has evolved into a musical force defined by improvisation, innovation, and a deeply personal sound. Rooted in South London’s vibrant music scene, they’ve spent over two decades as its bedrock, collaborating with visionaries like Sampha, Kae Tempest, and Shabaka Hutchings while mentoring rising stars such as Joe Armon-Jones and Léa Sen. Their 2023 debut album, Further Out Than The Edge, was met with critical acclaim, earning five stars and The Guardian’s "Album of the Year" nod. Following iconic performances at Glastonbury and Montreux, 2024 saw them win an Ivor Novello Award and perform groundbreaking orchestral works at Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival. Now working on their highly anticipated second album and composing scores for BBC’s Mr Loverman, Speakers Corner Quartet continues to redefine musical boundaries with their unmistakable artistry.
